Working On: A Red & White Quilt
November 21, 2012 § 3 Comments
Did I ever tell you that Zac and I were hand-piecing and hand-sewing a quilt together?
It’s the Irish Chain pattern from Modern Quilts, Traditional Inspiration.
Just in case the sentimental factor isn’t sky high enough, I stole Zac’s rattiest work shirt and cut it up, so it’ll be the accent bit of blue.
The very idea of co-quilting a quilt is, in my mom’s words, “DisGUSting!”
“Is it a divorce-quilt?” asked a friend of mine, over drinks, when I told her about it.
But I think they both meant it in an affectionate way.
I mean, it isn’t yet.

While I think that you have found an incredibly unique mate, the thought of all that hand sewing makes my eyes cross. I am a quilter and while I appreciate the beauty of the Irish Chain, it is not a pattern I have ever felt the need to attempt–same for Trip Around the Worl and all it’s postage stamp sized pieces. Enjoy the cutting and sewing, and I hope you are still friends at the end! :-).
Good luck on your quilt. I, too, am a quilter and love the idea of hand anything, most times its a time issue, I can’t even find time right now to machine quilt and I have a long arm in my living room!!
But for fun, and before anyone sez anything, I am a cat-lover to the max, have 8 currently in residence, including a visitor who’s dad is in the Air Force and out of the area for extended training, you should listen to ‘Cat in Half’ by Sol Driven Train. It cracks me up and if you get to see them perform it live, in their ‘beach mode’ (as I call it as opposed to their ‘mountain mode’) do so!
Oh, and do you follow ‘ittybittykittycommittee.com, good for a kitten fix and she has a current batch of 4 adorable boys. I can only say ‘Thank God’ she only adopts them out in the Seattle/Tacoma area!!
Thanks for the post.
it’s brilliant.
